Riad Abracadabra. Despite tourism, the Marrakech medina is a world that remains true to itself. Walking through its winding streets you can see that, as fifteen years ago, things are still real. And in the midst of it all, five minutes from Jemaa-el-Fnà square and within the old walls, Inés and Bruno, two Catalans –cousins and partners– bought this classic Riad, the old Derkaoui, from a local aristocratic family. After two years of restoration using local materials such as tadelakt (stucco), and Fes zellige (mosaic) or bejmat (baked clay) they have opened Riad Abracadabra, with the aim of creating a magical space. The solid façade insulates the interior from the boiling chaos of humanity and the cocktail of aromas of the souks in the Medina. The interior is an oasis of cool and the subtle scent of rose petals. On the roof, open to the sky, a great terrace, furnished with armchairs and loungers, a bar serving a selection of cocktails and
tables for enjoying breakfast as day dawns over the city. According to the time of day this is the space for enjoying the swimming pool, contemplating the sunset, drinking a mint tea or lounging on the sun beds with a view over the rooftops of Marrakech, the minarets, the parabolic antennae and the snowy peaks of the Atlas mountains.
