Hotel Boutique Palacio Ico takes its name from a local princess, living in the island prior to the Norman Conquest of 1402. It is located in the village of Teguise, in an impressive building from 1690, today completely rehabilitated under the influence of Heidi Bucher, who lived and created within its walls works that have been exhibited in the Moma, NY Metropolitan or the Venice Biennale in 2017. Renowned artist César Manrique had it included in his book "Lanzarote unpublished architecture", as one of the best examples of Canarian architecture.
The Palacio Ico has large wooden coffered ceilings about 4 meters high and original floors in some rooms, both in mulberry wood and tea-wood of the eighteenth century, stone walls more than half a meter thick and a traditional Canary interior patio. Its 9 rooms preserve the original size of the spaces, some of them reaching 750 square feet, rationally minimalist designed with natural elements. The spacious bathrooms in smooth-finish concrete convey freshness, quietness and a feeling of serene melancholy.
To wander through the streets of Villa de Teguise is to feel the footsteps of its inhabitants centuries ago, palaces, convents, stately homes, the Castle and the raw beauty of its houses. An optimal place to tour the entire island, only 10 km away from Famara Beach, one of the most impressive on the island.
Hotel Palacio Ico organizes daily yoga classes within its premises or on Famara Beach, where children and adults may also begin surfing, go sailing to explore the island’s countless coves or reach nearby La Graciosa. Lanzarote is one of the best places in Europe to scuba dive, declared as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO for its cetaceans, unparalleled underwater topography, crystalline waters and great underwater biodiversity. They also provide rental bicycles, both for road and mountain. For hiking lovers, the hotel organizes routes with other groups or advises the best tours along dream coves, volcanoes and lava seas.
