Just a quarter of an hour away from the Casas Colgadas the Alto Tajo and its region –straddling Guadalajara and Cuenca– can show the visitor unspoilt corners of Iberian woodlands. Gazing on the large reddish building housing the hotel, surrounded by a blanket of pine and other trees, you would never guess that even the main building, with its shutters and wooden gallery, is newly built and not the traditional house it seems at first sight. You quickly observe tradition and modernity equally favoured, and the business meeting room is a surprise –a glass cube, the vanguard of design come to the forest. The public rooms of the hotel, especially the library, have the warm feel of being lived in, above all when there’s an excuse to light a fire. Wood, comfortable furniture and natural light abound. 14 hectares of botanical garden-like property surround the house and its outbuildings that all belong to the family that is bringing this mountain back to life.
