The Ethical Center of Teixois in Taramundi , in the Asturian West, is an ethnographic group of traditional houses and water mills, which are still in operation in a spectacular natural environment. The whole family can enjoy the Museums of Molinos de España (Mills of Spain), an educational museum about the evolution of mills. The children will even be able to grind their own wheat! A fascinating place, where children can learn about the conservation and operation of a mill. A unique experience that will amaze you!

The western zone of Asturias never stops surprising. One of its treasures is the remnants of the Castro culture. The Castro de Coaña, a historical site located on a hill on the left bank of the Navia estuary. The whole family can enjoy a fantastic day exploring this place that dates back to the 4th century BC! The guided tour is very interesting, although you can also visit it for free. A great opportunity to spark your childrens´ interest in history! The Lakes of Covadonga, located in the Natural Park of the Picos de Europa, is a place you should not miss. There are magnificent path walks and trails around the lakes, where you´ll have wonderful views of the landscape. We recommend the two circular routes starting from the Parking de la Buferrera towards the Mirador del Príncipe, El Ercina Lake, El Hayedo Palomberu and La Vega de Enol. Take notice that in the high season, it is only possible to access by bus. One of the routes is shorter and therefore more suitable to take with kids. While walking around the Lakes of Covadonga, the children will be amazed by the grazing cows and wonderful views of the landscape. The restaurants Sidrería Moreno and Casa Morán will offer the opportunity to taste the typical traditional dishes of Asturias. This hike will be an unforgettable experience!

Los Bufones de Pría are located in the eastern part of Asturias, and a real natural phenomenon. The rocky limestone cliffs make up for very special scenery, but there is more. The erosion of the sea created cracks and blowholes in the limestone cliffs. With high tide, the sea smashes against the cliffs and through the blowholes (Bufones), creating a spectacular scene. Also with low tide, it is worth to visit this place. It is said that you can hear a ´dragon´ roaring through the cracks, which will definitely impress the children! Just don´t tell them it’s only the wind… Enjoy the beautiful view together with your family and admire the impressive cliffs.

One of the most unique museums in Asturias is the Jurassic Museum, located between the towns of Colunga and Lastres, where they have found remains of dinosaurs that would have populated the region about 150 million years ago. In the form of a large dinosaur footprint, this Museum hosts one of the most complete and didactic exhibitions in the world on these fascinating reptiles. The museum offers several workshops where the children can learn about the paleontological work, go on a quest for fossils or observe the characteristics of the dinosaurs. The kids will have an amazing time full of new experiences! Nearby are the hotels Quinta de Villanueva, El Babú , and El Habana, which are very suitable to stay with children.

Located in Ribadesella are the Caves of Tito Bustillo
(Las Cuevas del Tito Bustillo). These caves are famous for their pre-historic cave paintings, dating back to 10,000 BC. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is very impressive if you realize how long ago these paintings have been made. You can take the guided tour of the caves to learn more about its history, and also workshops that focus on archaeology and prehistoric heritage in an entertaining way. We recommend you book a tour in advance because of the large number of visitors that are expected. And for your Rusticae accommodation, we recommend El Babú, located just 20 minutes from the caves.

Declared a Natural Monument of the Principality of Asturias, The Waterfalls of Oneta, located in western Asturias, is a perfect occasion to combine outdoor activities with family fun. The three beautiful waterfalls are surrounded by oaks, birches and chestnuts, and provide stunning pathways and trials. You can take a route that starts from the town of Oneta and continuous along the river. You´ll come across the most beautiful landscapes wtith rich vegetation and lots of color contrast. Children will love to visit La Senda del Oso (The Bear Path), located in the Ubiñas Natural Park. The path goes through some of the last remaining brown bear habitat in Spain, and you´ll be able to spot them from the path. This path also runs through gorges, bridges, tunnels and forests, and is ideal to do with children of all ages. The path itself was originally a mining rail used until 1963, and nowadays you are able to enjoy all the beautiful nature around it, while the children are impressed by the bears!

The Aquarium of Gijón, located on the promenade of Poniente Beach, is one of the most beautiful and best-kept aquariums in Spain. Children can take a tour of the different seas of the world, and discover the marine life of the Pacific and Indian oceans. Observe the sharks and other fished in the tunnel, where you are surrounded by the aquarium. It´s possible to literally stick you head in the aquarium, with the build in ´bubbles´. The information panels provide interesting facts and trivia about the fishes and other marine life. Yet another great day out in Asturias, there is so much to choose from!
